How to Purchase

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, postal money orders, PayPal, and (with our prior approval) personal or institutional checks from within the US. All prices listed and all transactions are in US dollars. Sales tax will be added to all orders shipped within the state of Iowa.

Shipping Rates

All orders are shipped by United States Postal Service. We ship daily Monday-Saturday and mail your order promptly upon receipt of payment.

Shipping within the United States:

$3.50 (+$1 per additional book) for standard service (5-14 business days)
$6.99 (+$3 per additional book) for priority service (3-6 business days)
 
Shipping outside the United States:

$19.95 to Mexico or Canada (5-8 business days)
$24.95 to all other countries (5-8 business days)
These rates apply to all orders for which the book(s) can be packaged in a parcel that is not over 30cm in length, 25cm in width, or 1.5kg in weight. We will email you a shipping quote if additional postage will be necessary for larger parcels and will not charge your card unless you confirm the additional charges.

We make every effort to keep shipping prices as low as possible while keeping your purchase safely packaged. Additional services, such as overnight mail, are available; call or email for further information.

Returns and Claims

Returns of books purchased online or by mail or phone order are accepted within 30 days of receipt by the buyer, provided that the returned item is received by us in condition as shipped. Full refunds will be issued for books clearly not as advertised or described; a partial refund or store credit may be available for discretionary returns (you must contact us to confirm prior to returning the book). Postage will be refunded only if the return is the result of our error.

These terms apply to purchases made through this website, by email, telephone, mail, or by other direct order. Terms of sale for purchases made through Biblio.com or other online purchasing venues are posted at the respective websites.

Gift Certificates

Yes! We offer gift certificates in any amount - you can get one for $3.14 (a great gag gift for your favourite mathematician) or $19.72 (if a friend of yours is turning forty) or any other figure - as long as the amount is in US dollars*. Our gift certificates are printed on parchment-coloured cardstock.

You can purchase gift certificates in the store or order gift certificates by mail, telephone or email; we can hold the certificate in the store for the recipient, mail the certificate to the recipient, or mail it to you.

We also accept Iowa City Community Gift Cards for purchases made in our open shop.

*We weren't specific enough before and were asked if we could issue gift certificates for "four and twenty blackbirds" or "three ounces of platinum." Kids these days, I tell you. --NS

Discounts

Teachers' Discount

To teachers of preschool through high school students purchasing books for classroom use, we offer a 15% discount. This discount is available only on in-store purchases.

Trade Discount

We do offer a discount of 10% to bona fide book dealers on orders through this website, by phone or mail, or in-store purchases. US book dealers, please present your resale number at the time of your purchase or order to qualify.
