Item #078689 The Plague Pamphlets of Thomas Dekker. Thomas Dekker, F. P. Wilson.

The Plague Pamphlets of Thomas Dekker

Oxford at the Clarendon Press, 1925. Cloth Hardcover. Very Good with no dust jacket / No Dustjacket. Item #078689

Clean pages save for a bookplate at the front fixed endpaper and toning at the half-title; the front hinge is relaxed and showing stitches before the title, but the binding is otherwise sound. The full blue cloth cover bears a few pale droplet marks on the front, lines of surface wear along the spine sides and small spots of fraying at corners, and the expected dimming along the spine, otherwise attractive and well-kept. xl, 268pp. incl. notes, indices. A remarkable example of editorial typography, producing the feel of the original but in text easier for the post-blackletter eye. "1603. The Wonderfull yeare. Wherein is shewed the picture of London, lying sicke of the Plague. At the ende of all (like a mery Epilogue to a dull Play) certaine Tales are cut out in sundry fashions, of purpose to shorten the lives of long winters nights, that lye watching in the darke for us."; 12mo.
