Clean pages except for a bookplate on the front fixed endpaper, a few dark specks along foreedges, and mild age-toning throughout; the full blue cloth hard cover shows some short, shallow surface ripples at the lower right front and some softening at spine heel; jacket is priceclipped, faded at spine, creased across front with a small open tear at upper middle and a long open tear at the lower front, and also bears patchy toning on the rear and smaller open tears and chips around edges, but text areas remain generally intact, and jacket is now protected in a clear sleeve. 272pp. Biographies of eleven significant medical doctors in England from 1066 to 1919, including Gilbert the Englishman and John of Gaddesden (from The Canterbury Tales), Thomas Linacre, William Harvey, Thomas Sydenham, Hans Sloane, John Hunter, Edward Jenner, James Young Simpson, Joseph Lister, and William Osler.
