Crisp pages with no owners' marks, though with occasional reciprocal smudges from a dark page to a light one; clean and even plastic coil binding; working pen-shaped flashlight attached with velcro at the bottom edge of the back cover (requires two AAA batteries, not included); sturdy cover bears only one faint, pale mark at the left front, otherwise excellent. A bedtime story in silhouettes with varying operations (one method being less scary than the other); the ending is calming and charming, with a wee subtle message tucked among the verses: a shadow can grow frighteningly with scrutiny if the viewer's eyes are on the shadow and not the substance.
