Bring the Jubilee

New York: Farrar, Straus and Young, Inc., 1953. First Edition. One-Quarter Cloth. Very Good in Good dust jacket / Good. Item #068733

Pages clean except for some dust staining and two small, inky spots on the head edges as well as modest toning around the margins; spine leans somewhat to the right, but binding remains tight; hard cover is moderately faded and rubbed at the spine ends and shelfworn at the tips of the corners, with one small chip at the bottom rear edge, otherwise excellent. Dustjacket bears short, open tears and chipping at corners and spine ends, surface wear along the foreedges and along each side of the spine, a pair of clear droplet stains, three small scratches, and some smudging on the rear, and a short tear with attendant creases at the bottom front edge, otherwise sound, now protected in a clear sleeve. 194pp. Lack of funding inhibits transportation; universities are little more than competitions for job security at students' expense; racial supremacists massacred Asian Americans; the "Grand Army" is an underground isolationism movement that holds it to be self-evident that the North would have won the American Civil War if it hadn't joined up with the abolitionists. This is the darkest 'South wins the war' alternate future I've read yet.
