A photographic record of men in the U.S. Armed Forces from Johnson County, Iowa, during the end of the first World War; each two-page spread shows several carefully reproduced photo portraits and a detailed list of names, ranks, birthdates, parents, service dates, and locations of service; the first several pages bear gold foil stars and the dates and places of decease for those killed in the line of duty. The individual pages show scattered foxing in the margins and at the preliminaries as well as light age-toning starting around the margins; no owners' marks; the binding is shaken at the hinges with small splits starting at head and heel, otherwise sound. The full cloth hard cover bears surface wear at the corners, spine ends, and edges, a short, open surface tear at the upper spine, some dust staining to the textured portions of the cloth, and a spot of fraying at each of the free corners, otherwise clean and attractive, with an unusual combination of tinting and stamping on the cover creating a striking image. 156pp.
