Complete in two volumes; 493pp. + 476pp. The pages of these volumes are crisp, remarkably bright, and clean except for some gray smudges at the front endpapers of Volume I. The bindings are square and tight, the full green cloth hard covers slightly differing in color (Volume II appears faded) and show some shelf rubbing at the corners, spine ends, and shoulders, but are otherwise clean and excellent. This two-volume set discusses at length the history of taxation in Iowa, with the first volume devoted to the general property tax and "Some Special Problems," including taxation of banks and telegraph companies, poll and license taxes, and the taxation of inheritance. The second volume covers railroad taxation and concludes with a chapter on general impressions of Iowa's taxation history and its implications for future governance.
