Basel: Jean Christ, 1740. Calfskin. 8vo. Good. Item #072251
Language: French. Handsome in the original leather and endpapers with several woodcut ornaments. Pages bear scattered foxing throughout and some dust staining verging to age toning despite the red-tinted block edges; there is also a number penned at the top of the final endpaper, but no other owners' marks. The binding remains tight, though the cords at head and heel are partially exposed where the leather has chipped and worn, matching exposure at the board corners, and some surface cracking has begun along the joints; the leather otherwise shows some loss of the gilt decoration at the spine, particularly over the raised bands, and loss of gilt along the outside edges of the boards, where rubbing and roughening have eroded the surface but only work down to the board in two spots on the heel edges and at each of the corners; overall, robust in color, attractive, and eager to make its tercentenary in same condition. , CX, 205, [14, compris d'un table des ms alphabetique et un catalogue des imprimeurs]. Nouvelle edition avec le "Discours preliminaire" de Pierre Roques (premiere, Amsterdam: Pierre Brunel, 1720).
