Foreign Skies Through Mother's Eyes: Round-the-World Letters to My Children

Chicago: Rand McNally & Company, 1924. Hardcover. Very Good in Very Good dust jacket / Very Good. Item #071219

Author lived in Des Moines, Iowa, between the journeys described in this book. Crisp, clean pages except for a star-shaped ink stamp on the front free endpaper; gilt head edge remains bright; binding is square and secure, full cloth cover only mildly rubbed at spine heel and corners; jacket has one tiny edge tear at the bottom front, another at the bottom rear, a tiny surface tear at the left front, thin lines of discoloration along the spine sides, thin scuffs along the rear foreedge, and modest shelfwear at corners and spine ends, otherwise sound and attractive, now protected in a clear sleeve. 316pp. Typically for the socioeconomic class and era of the author, descriptions of the world's peoples are less than reasonable, but Mrs. Cowles did a good deal of traveling with her newspaper-founder husband and obviously loves the children for whom she wrote this book.
