Signed by the author at the front free endpaper with a short inscription ("with cordial regards") but no date or named recipient). Pages crisp and clean except for foxing around the page block edges and a little toning at hinges; the full cloth cover shows some patchy spotting in the joints and softening at the spine ends, otherwise excellent. Jacket shows three closed tears with attendant creases at the spine heel, gentle sunning along the spine, light surface wear along verticals, and chipping at spine ends and corners, but remains overall clean and attractive, now protected in a clear sleeve. 1961 first reprint.; Signed by Author.
