Japan: Its History, Arts, and Literature (Eight Volume Set of the larger Oriental Series)

Boston: J. B. Millet Company, 1901. Hard Cover. Very Good / No Jacket. Item #060950

Complete in eight volumes, this set is bound in hard cover with one-quarter brightly illustrated white paper, the balance in a textured brown paper; no dust jackets; head edges gilded, foreedges and heels cut (or at some signatures uncut). The pages of all volumes are clean and bright; there are no owners' marks; each volume has six full-page illustrations, though a few are missing their tissue guards. The bindings are in some cases slightly relaxed at the front hinges, but all are square and secure. The corners and spine ends of the cover show spots of rubbing with rub-through on just a few of the free corners; the spines are toned, in some cases with scattered, pale drip marks; the third volume has two small lines of discoloration on the back and a band of darkening at the spine heel; the eighth has lines of discoloration at the left front; the first has a small scuff at the top left rear and a pale mark at the bottom right rear; otherwise clean and well-kept. Each volume has indices and appendices.
