Berlin: Gustav Hempel, 1856. Fifth Printing. Half-Leather. Good. Item #067893
"Mit 80 in den Text eingedruckten Holzschnitten." VIII + 496pp. Pages bear foxing throughout but are free from owners' marks; binding is slightly relaxed, but square and secure, the leather of the spine showing scratches and scuffs along the backstrip, along the sides, and at the spine ends, with some flaking of the gilt titles and decoration; the corners are worn around the edges; the textured brown boards also show a few chips around outside edges and a few faint scratches on the back, otherwise clean and well-kept. Caveat for the modern reader: Only taxonomical names are in a Roman typeface; the rest is in blackletter. Occasionally whimsical but finely printed woodcuts.
