Lincoln Mac Veagh / The Dial Press, 1932. First American Edition. Hard Cover. Good + / Good. Item #041757

The pages of this copy are clean, with no owners' marks, and while gently age-toned at the endpapers and deckled edges with a smattering of dust soil at the deckles, are otherwise excellent; the binding is square and sound, the red cloth hard cover lightly shelf-rubbed at the spine heel but otherwise clean and lovely. The jacket bears small open chips at the corners and spine ends, some darkening at the spine, a tiny price clip at the front flap, a long but closed tear at the upper rear, and a short open tear at the rear foreedge, but remains attractive and is now protected in a clear, archivally safe sleeve. 349pp. A novelistic treatment of interwar, upper-class British society as seen by a Jew in their ranks; social commentary on the first world war, hierarchy, and tradition, and a debate about inter-lapsed-faith marriage that is unusually open-minded for its time.
