Iowa City IA: State Historical Society of Iowa, 1955. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good / No Dustjacket. Item #003456
Crisp, bright, clean pages; no owners' marks; square, tight binding. The red cloth hard cover shows a thin scratch at the lower front, a little darkening on the spine, and some rubbing at corners and spine ends, otherwise excellent. John A. Kasson, a native of Charlotte, Virgina, came to Iowa in 1857 an accomplished lawyer. In 1860, he was a delegate to the Chicago Convention that elected Abraham Lincoln as the brand new Republican Party's candidate for President. Under Lincoln, Kasson served as First Assistant Postmaster General and played a prominent role in US diplomacy. He died in 1910.
