To: Monday, December 17th at 9:00 PM
Location: The Stage
Lois Potter, author of the highly acclaimed "The Life of William Shakespeare: A Critical Biography" (Wiley-Blackwell, Second Edition May 2012), will speak about the problems of writing a biography of a figure at once so well known and so little documented -- and one with whom, at first sight, she seemed to have nothing in common. Her discussion of the creative process of writing biography and a sampling of her insights into Shakespeare as businessman and artistic collaborator will make this a fascinating evening.
"She exhibits an absolute command of the available facts, a lifetime's acquaintance with the works... an unparalleled familiarity with theatrical history from 1567 to the present, and a talent for connecting the fictional and the actual." - Russ McDonald, TLS, August 10, 2012
"Very cleverly uses expert theatre-knowledge as a way of making her enigmatic subject seem plausibly substantial." - Andrew Motion, The Guardian, November 23, 2012
"The best Shakespeare biography ever." - Nancy Andreasen, M.D., Ph.D.
This event is free and open to the public.
